Chhath Pooja – Comprises of Rigorous Rituals!Chhath Pooja is also known as the Dala Chhath which is a traditional Hindu festival. This is considered as the most ancient festival that Hindu use to celebrate and this festival is dedicated to Hindu God Surya or Sun God. This festival is also called as Surya Shashti. This pooja is celebrated in order to thanks the Sun God for sustaining and maintaining life on this earth. This festival is also celebrated by people in order to request their God for granting some wishes. As per the Hindu beliefs, Sun is considered as the God who offers life force and energy. So during the Chath Pooja, people use to worship their God so that well being, progress and prosperity can be promoted. As per Hinduism, worshiping Sun can heal several diseases. It also helps in supplying family prosperity and longevity. The rituals associated with Chhath Pooja are quite rigorous. These rituals can continue up to four day and include holy bath and fasting. Some believers even abstain themselves from drinking the water during the Chhath Pooja and this act is called as Vratta.
Chhath Puja generally takes place, during months of October & November, and immediately following 6 day of festival of lights well known as Diwali. The Chhath Puja generally lasts for three days. There is as well the "Chaiti Chhath" celebrated after Holi. The Chhath Puja is been celebrated primarily in Bihar, Uttaranchal, Utter Pradesh, and Jharkhand, nowadays, you may see the celebration almost all over the place in India.
